ABSTRACT DEADLINES

- Early bird registration deadline : April 15, 2024
- The presenting author of an accepted abstract should register and complete the full payment before March 15, 2024, in order to be included in the final Programme
AUTHORS
- A presenting authors can submit no more than 3 contributions. In order to maximize the number of speakers able to present their work at 18th-ICC, at most one oral presentation will be allocated per presenting author. The presenting author of an accepted abstract should register and complete the full payment in order to be included in the final Program. When you submit your abstract, you will be required to select your intended participation format (Oral only / Oral preferred / Poster) and the Topic session.
PRESENTATION TYPES
- Oral presentations: If selected for an oral presentation, you will be given a timeslot of 20 minutes including discussions (15 min presentation + 5 min Q&A).
- Poster presentations: If selected for a poster presentation, you will present your work in a dedicated poster session during the Congress.
- A same abstract should not be submitted several times, in several types of communications.
CONFERENCE TOPICS
- Be sure to check the various conference Topics you can submit your abstract to: https://www.icc-lyon2024.fr/en/scientific-program/scientific-topics/35
- Picking a Topic aligned with your research subject makes it more likely that your abstract will be reviewed by relevant experts. You will have to select the topic area that best matches your abstract. If we cannot accommodate your first choice, the Scientific Committee may consider an alternate Topic for placing your presentation.
- A same abstract should not be submitted several times, in several topics.
ABSTRACT SUBMISSION
- Title: Abstract titles that are informative, concise, and to the point, can be highly effective. A good title will readily communicate to a potential attendee what your presentation is about and instill in him or her the desire to attend it. Titles with 12 words or fewer are optimal.
- Keywords: Think of which keywords are typically used in your area of catalysis research and match the best ones with your abstract. A careful choice of a set of keywords will allow the conference committees to select reviewers with the most appropriate expertise for reviewing your abstract. Also think about including some of the keywords in your title to help others find your talk when searching in the technical program. You will have to select:
- at least 1 keyword from among the predefined list for your chosen Topic
- and a minimum of 3 keywords in total, among all Topics
- and a maximum of 5 keywords in total, among all Topics
- Short Summary: The Short Summary should be 50 words or less, briefly describe the main findings and highlight the importance of the work. The Short Summary will be easily accessible in the online program and will guide attendees. The short Summary is required in addition to the Extended Abstract. We recommend that you prepare your summary as a Word document and then copy and paste it in the space provided.
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
- Submissions for 18th-ICC will require an Extended Abstract, which allows for more information to be included. Having section on motivations, followed by technical details including methods, results and discussion can help highlight your work. To wrap it all up, a small section highlighting the significance of the work can go a long way.
- An extended abstract is required. Abstracts are limited to one page (A4 format) as PDF file (15Mo maximum) and must be in landscape format divided into two columns. Abstracts may include pictures, graphs, charts, and references.
- A Word template is available for download: Word template, which must be followed for the abstract to be considered for oral or poster presentation at 18th-ICC. Submission of the abstract requires conversion of the final document to PDF format. Any Extended Abstract that is accepted for 18th-ICC will later become publicly available online as part of the technical program. Make sure that any data and information included is ready for prime time, as well as cleared to be shared publicly by all co-authors.
YOUNG TALENT LABEL
- In order to promote the visibility of highly talented young researchers during ICC 2024, a “YOUNG TALENT" label of excellence will be awarded to emerging young researchers selected for oral communications, and will appear in the program.
- These authors should not be more than 35 years old as of January 1, 2024 and will be required to provide a CV as a PDF file, using the following biosketch Word template.
AFTER SUBMISSION
- Presenting authors will be automatically informed via email of the unique ID number assigned to their abstract. Abstracts may be viewed and modified at any time between the submission and the deadline, using the Author control panel.
- After the submission deadline, no further changes will be permitted. Any mistake in the abstract or in data will be published as-is (no proofreading).

- Relevance with respect to selected Topic (does the abstract fit into the Topic selected by the authors) : Yes/No

- Technical Quality (40%). For the data presented, are the results and conclusions reasonable and supportable? Is the methodology sound and appropriate for the results and conclusions? The reviewers are asked to evaluate if there were any actual data collected or calculations performed. Abstracts that are mostly based on future work should garner a lower score.
- Novelty (30%). Do the results bring new insights with respect to the state of the art? Is this a new application? Are the conclusions unique? Was a novel approach used in gaining these results? Is the submission substantially different from previous presentations or publications from this group? From others?
- Significance (30%). Is the contribution important for the field of catalysis? Level of technical and/or scientific impact?
- Scores. For each criterion, the range of evaluation scores is between 1 and 4 (1=Poor, 2=Good, 3=Very good, 4= Outstanding)
- Average score. The scores obtained for Technical Quality, Novelty and Significance are combined together to get an average score. For information, it is anticipated that abstracts with average scores above 3 may be selected for Oral presentations, although this does not preclude the selection of abstracts with a lower score, as it will depend on the number of abstracts received per Topic and the quality of abstracts in each Topic.
- Relevance with respect to selected Topic. Should the abstract not fit within the Topic selected by the authors, the evaluation may not entirely reflect the quality of the abstract. Although, the possibility of Topic transfer exists, it is highly recommended to select the most appropriate Topic first. Look carefully at all conference Topics and the list of associated Keywords.
Reviewing process
The Topic Committees will do their best to obtain three, or at least two, evaluation reports from Reviewers. In order to assess the evaluation reports, Reviewers are asked to indicate their level of expertise for that particular review (Expert on the topic, Expert on a part of the topic, General Knowledge of the topic, General Knowledge on part of the topic). This self-assessment will be used in the event of substantial discrepancies among reviewers, in order to favor the opinion of the most specialized expert(s) over that of the least specialized expert(s) in the final outcome. Abstract selection For each Topic, the Topic Committees will propose a preselection (short list) of abstracts based on reviewer evaluation reports for oral presentations. From the preselected of abstracts, the Executive Committee will make the final selection, which will take into considerations the technical quality of the abstracts together with additional aspects including gender, geography, affiliation and years of experience. The Executive Committee will devote special attention to authors with relevant contextual elements. In order to maximize the number of speakers able to present their work, only one oral presentation will be allocated per presenting author. An author can present no more than three contributions: either 1 oral and 2 posters, or 3 posters. All presenting authors must register in order for their abstracts to be included in the program. Ethics The definition of conflict of interest will be provided. Topic Committee members, Chairs and Reviewers will pledge, “I acknowledge the existence of bias in selection processes, and as a reviewer I will do my best to ground my decisions in the values put forward by the conference, namely that our practices reflect our values toward each other, in particular:
